If the Japanese had Airstream quality during WWII we would be speaking Japanese and driving Toyotas. Fortunately we had Airstream quality and won the war. Back then Americans were proud of what Made in America meant. And we now proudly drive Rams and Fords and GM products.
I think a little actual history is in order here to counteract some of this jingoistic revisionist history.
By any historical and engineering measure the Zero was a far superior aircraft to the ones our guys were flying in the Pacific War at least in the first year and a half. Even after that it was a draw. It was faster more maneuverable and could take a great beating and still fly.
Japanese tanks were smaller, more nimble and better suited for jungle warfare (and dependable) than ours. they also used less fuel.
Japan lost the war due to a long list of shortcomings including a very top down command system. An unresponsive political system. But mostly Lack Of Natural Resources. Their supply lines were too long and complicated to sustain over time. Couple that with the industrial output of the US their loss was a foregone conclusion (and they knew this) It was NOT due to inferior equipment.
