Quality S WDH

I am looking at buying a TT 7500# and 1000# TW. I have a quality s
wdh that came with my 3 horse trailer, I didn't see any info on it for what it is rated for but it looks very substantial,it has a
2 5/16 ball. Does anyone know much about the hitch? I was wondering if the receiver part with the ball would be heavy duty enough and then get perhaps a Reese Dual Cam for the trailer part. I want the best setup so if this is not a good idea let me know.

Thanks
  • I had a Quality S brand WDH with spring bars and clamps years ago. It was used when I bought it. The head was welded to a short shank (draw bar). I really liked that hitch but, I never knew what it was rated for. It just worked for our small TT and F150. The trunion style bar knuckles looked like the Reese trunion style knuckles. I'd almost bet a sandwich they would be interchangeable. With that said, I'd plunk down the bucks for a Reese HP dual cam from the shank to the chain brackets. That's what I did with our new TT coming back from a 5th wheel. If nothing else, I sleep better knowing it's rated for far more than we're towing and the parts are made to go together.
  • If you do want to use what you got, then you can ask Quality S what the factory rating is for your particular equipment. They're the best source of information for their products.
  • I'm having a hard time following your though process here. When you purchase a weight distribution system, you get the bars, the parts that connect the bars to the trailer tongue. You get the hitch head that the other end of the bars connect into and the shaft the hitch head is is connected to. You then get a new ball that matches the weight you are towing, (or heavier). In other words, the weight distribution system is a complete set.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it sound like you want to use parts between the two weight distribution systems inter changeable. I know nothing about the "S" you are referring to, but I almost guarantee the Reese Dual Cam will not have inter changeable parts.

Get the entire system for your camper, keep the other system for the horse trailer. Keep it simple. Use them the way they were designed, and keep everything safe as possible.

    Good luck in your choice.
