We went there.twice in one visit; first and last. I agree you should go once to see it.
No grass for dogs, just stickers, cactus and sharp rocks. I think westerners are more acclimated to the desert and lack of greenery. It makes sense for someone from Montana to winter there than to drive to Florida. I am from the east. I want green stuff.
