Not really. Pot is mostly ignored but hard drugs are discouraged by the permanent residents. There are several burned dwellings at the slabs because of drug dealers not moving on when encouraged to. It's like any community, don't leave you valued stuff laying around unlocked, or it will grow legs. We spend several days there every year with friends that snowbird there. Free golf, free spa, free library, free sun and sand and lets not forget Leonard Knight's Salvation Mountain.
Yes, it looks unkempt when you first enter and it is. But it's a hoot!
