Question about MH smog requirements

Probably everyone knows this but me, so I have to ask.
When a MH is bought out of state, I live in California, do I have to make smog modifications to comply with California requirements?
I didn't just didn't want to assume that all MH's comply, but have not seen conversation on the subject.
Thanks
Steve

  • A California licensed dealer is required to guarantee that a vehicle meets California emission standards. An out of state dealer has no such responsibility. The responsibility is YOURS when you decide to register the vehicle in California. It can be a non-issue or an expensive lesson.
  • Thanks for your comments. I never want to rely on what any salesperson might tell me on the subject...lol
  • If it has more than 7500 miles on it, has all of the emissions equipment it came with from the factory and passes a CA emissions test, you should be fine.
  • Steve,
When you go to the DMV here in California, as you would expect, they require the smog equipment to be installed and fully functioning. It has been my experience that most if not all vehicles already have this equipment, with the question being whether or not it functions. You have to have a smog cert done on the vehicle to register it which settles the function issue.
