question about wdh set-up

If I have airbags, do I set the WDH to return the front ride height before or after inflating the bags?

For my first trip I filled the bags to 35 psi which brought me within 1/2 inch of my original rear ride height, then I adjusted my propride hitch to return the front ride height.

Wondering what you guys think?

That's backwards. You inflate the air bags then adjust the WD. When you raise the rear of the truck with the bags you are effectively tilting the hitch head towards the front which is going to reduce the tension on the bars and transfer less weight to the front axle. You have to readjust the WD after changing the pressure in the bags.

That makes sense. I wasn't thinking of the head tilting, but now that you say it that is probably the biggest difference between the two methods

Looks like I will stick with pumping the airbags up at home and then going to get the trailer.

  • Does the level of the front wheel well opening change after adding air or will it stay the same?

I will have to mess around with it next time I am hitching up

  • What APT said. WDH first then air bags to level the rear.
  • You lose some granularity of adjustment by raising rear with air bags first. I recommend adjusting the WDH first to get the front axle at unhitched weight/height.
  • yup.... seems to me you got it right the first time... i would have done the same thing
