Question for Hensley or Propride owners

I am considering purchase of this type of hitch. Problem is that I will have trailer stowed at an indoor facility where they move the trailers in and out for us. They would need access to the ball hitch. Is it possible and fairly easy to remove hitch for them and then reinstall when I pick it up? I'd really like one of these hitches but only if this is a relatively easy job. My guess would be no. Thanks.

  • x2 - I read the thread and got a few nice chuckles out of it here and there...
  • Barney nice find. As you know that is exactly what I was describing.
The only bad part is that I read the entire thread, re-living another old Hensley debate. LOL
Using an alternative stinger is a great money saving idea.
  • Here is a post by member Drfife that shows the adapter he made to do just what you want. It has pictures of the whole thing including the use of the large screwdriver. Instead of using a different stinger, he uses his own and the adapter fits on it. MUCH cheaper that way! :)

No but you can have a traditional coupler welded to a Hensley stinger. You will need to order an additional stinger from HA for that purpose.
The coupler can be slid into the latch box and left on the trailer allowing the trailer to be moved around like a standard trailer. I had such a contraption when I owned my HA

You will also need a large screwdriver to slide into the pivot channels to keep linkage from moving/pivoting.
This whole idea came from HA themselves. I had similar concerns at the time and I was given this solution by HA.
I can vouch that the welded coupler worked.

  • I would be taking the trailer in and out of storage about 6 times a year. Sounds like the hard part is dealing with the weight of the hitch, that it actually comes off and goes back on without a lot of complication. About how much does the hitch head weigh?

Yes, they use a tractor. I will talk to them if I get the hitch about rigging something up. I just need a plan B if they are unwilling to accommodate this kind of setup.

    Thanks for the reply! Dan

Definitely not convenient. If it was just at the beginning and end of the season then not a big deal. I take mine off for the winter anyways. To do it regularly would be a PITA. Unhooking it from the TT isn't too hard, just pull the pins off the spring bars, unlatch and pull ahead with everything on the TV. Not really much more work than any other hitch. The problem is dealing with the heavy and awkward hitch head and dirty spring bars after it's unhitched.

Do they use a tractor or something to move it? Is it possible to use the stinger with it? Our dealer uses a tractor with a 2" square tube welded on so any draw bar will work, including my Hensley stinger.
