I'm trying to help a friend who lives in another state and can't get out to shop. She's had total hip replacement on one side, (much younger than usual, for birth defect) and was suggested by a nurse to get a "leg wedge pillow" I have about gone cross-eyed researching it on Amazon. There are so many different types. My friend would love to sleep on her healthy side at night and needs support for her surgery side. I thought maybe someone here would know what the best options are. Nothing is like "been-there-done-that" experience. I will be happy to order whatever might help her. I have had both hips done 2 yrs apart and use a $10 firm foam pillow since the first hip. Works fine as all you need is to keep your hip supported. The first two weeks post surgery are hard, but then it gets better quickly. Do the physical therapy as it is very important to your recovery. PM me if you have any questions,glad to answer if I can.

Doing the therapy at trainer sessions and on your own at home is essential for everybody.

Until she can find a "correct" pillow, she can take a regular bed pillow (or 2, if needed) and put it under the knee of her "bad" leg. Also works well to keep the pressure off your lower back, which is why I use it.

Both hips done too. I use an ordinary small firm pillow. Works fine.

Thanks, all. I will pass along your suggestions. She does have a PT tech who comes to the house. This is rural and options are limited. She is pleased with the surgery, but has a long way to go and will need the other hip done later.

my husband had a foam pyramid-kind of shaped wedge to place inside his legs and there was a strap to strap it to him. He could move that way to his side.
