I recently gave up on my Andersen hitch (but that's a topic for another post). I have a couple of questions about my new Equalizer hitch: 1. Can you substitute another kind of grease for the Equalizer lube, and 2. Can you leave the hitch head locked inside the coupler when you're gone from camp? Or how do you store it? I'll be out four-wheeling for a coupe of days at a time and I don't want to leave it in the receiver.

I use the Mobil 1 synthetic bearing grease on my EQ simply because that's what I have laying around. You can use any such heavy duty grease, some use a spray lithium grease, doesn't matter. You don't have to buy the EQ grease, but can if you want. As to your other question if I understand correctly, yes you can leave the hitch head in the RECEIVER if you like, some use a locking pin. I remove mine and set it a shallow plastic bin in the bed of the truck so I don't have that shin-buster where somebody could walk into it.

I meant pulling it out of the TV receiver and hitching it into the trailer coupler with a padlock, i.e., leaving it hanging there.

You can leave it hanging from the ball, but you you must be lined up perfectly when you drive away and then must disconnect it and put it back into the receiver before you hook up again.( my experience )

Regarding lube, any all-purpose grease at Walmart would work. Regarding leaving the hitch head on the coupler, it can be done, but I think it'd be a bit of a pain to have to undo that before you hitch up again, considering how heavy that hitch head is... I'd just lock it up in the front storage compartment of the TT--that's where it usually sits in storage for me anyway. FWIW, when camping, I simply place the hitch on the ground and place my double-propane tank cover over it. Never had any issues doing it that way...
