Questions to ask when interviewing for camphost position

I know this has come up before & thought I had saved it but am not finding it.

What questions do you ask when researching a non-paid camphost position?

TIA
  • Does it include internet, cable TV and anything else that might be important to you? Also be sure you get a writing agreement. In all our years of workamping we only had one campground owner who got upset about having a written agreement.
  • We camp hosted for the summers of 14 and 15 at the same camp ground. But that first summer was an eye opener! My questions are what does the job include? FHU??? Some don't have FHU, and I just wouldn't do it without. Job duties? Bathroom cleaning, site cleaning, money collecting, and oh the paperwork! How many hours daily, and days weekly?? Ours was a 40 week paid job! We were from the area, so we knew where everything was and that really helped!
  • Not all camp host positions are at campgrounds. We camp host at a day use only park and in the past five years have had no problems.
  • Check over on RV-Dreams.com. Howard and Linda have a lot of information there about work-camping. We found it very valuable in developing the list of things we ask and talk about before accepting a volunteer camp host position (the questions above are a good start, though).

All that is good but we also asked stuff like whether Verizon works there and how far to the nearest grocery store. If the satellite dish would work.
  • Get the full details of the hosting job. If you don't do bathrooms or weeding, get it out in the open.

Ask the hours if this is important to you.

Does the site have full-hookup? If not, is there a pump-out service and water delivery?

Will the site fit the size of your RV?

Are there other hosts to share the job so you can have a full night's rest without Friday night camper issues. :) Other hosts so you can leave the campground on your days off?
