Not true. A US citizen does not require a passport to enter Canada, the catch being she / he will need a passport to re-enter their own country unless they have a Trusted Traveler’s Card such as Nexus or other WHTI -approved documents. ;)

Funny how policies change in just a week and a half. LMAO. - westendExplorerI replaced four stolen passports in Paris France at the US Embassy. It took about three hours and was fairly costly, about $200, total, and that was back a few years. There were other families there in the same predicament.
Theft in Paris is treated like "Direct Foreign Aid". I actually ran into the thieves and tried to get them arrested but train station personnel would not help. - 2chiefsRusExplorerI know it doesn't help the original poster now but for anyone else reading this thread, you should always report a lost passport as soon as possible.
Lost or Stolen Passports
Report your passport lost or stolen immediately to protect yourself from identity theft. You can replace it now or later - it's up to you! Once you report a passport lost or stolen, it is invalid and cannot be used for international travel. - chris3403Explorer

Believe it or not, I had actually typed that out just the way you said it but thought better of it and deleted that part. - ktmrfsExplorer IIIt's possible to get a new or renewall passport in 2-3 business days if needed and your willing to (a) pay the cost and (b) travel to a passport office directly. It will cost more than normal processing.
However, since she Lost an existing valid passport, it may take longer and more paperwork to get a replacement. - SoundGuyExplorer

Article - DrewEExplorer IIWhat state do you live in? How old is your daughter?
For land travel to and from Canada, children under 16 do not need to have or present a passport--just a birth certificate. (Of course, a passport is also acceptable as proof of citizenship!)
If you're from one of the handful of states that issues enhanced driver's licenses, that is also acceptable and sufficient documentation and may involve less wait time than a passport. It's also mighty convenient. - chris3403ExplorerYou don't need a passport to go to Niagara Falls.
You do need a passport to go to Canada. - p220sigmanExplorerIf you need it in less than 2 weeks, you can also go to one of the passport offices. Will still cost the expedited fee and you have to have additional paperwork, but you will get it a little quicker than having it expedited.
We had to get new passport cards for the kids this spring and it took about 5 weeks non-expedited. - JimExplorerI have always used the official government web site. The one time I had to renew in a hurry, I used the expedited service and it only took 10 days even though I was expecting it to take 20 days, but my background isn't unusual in any respect. Got the new photo's at a Walgreens drug store.
