I lived in a remote area of Southern Utah for a couple years as a kid and kept in touch with a lot of the folks from that time. A lot of my friends dads worked the Uranium mines that were a big part of the economy of the area at the time. Most of those guys died relatively young, quite worn and arthritic, and often of cancer. Myself, I tend to avoid exploring the old mines that are still accessible primarily because of the radon risks. You'll find the same claims for soaking in mineral hot baths which I'm much more inclined to seek out. Can't say it does any good long term, but you feel great right afterward.
