I use stuff called Rain-X Wash/Wax, which is safe for paint, plastic etc. It's simply car wash/wax and is entirely different from the Rain-X intended for windshields.
Rain-X Wash/Wax is mixed with water in a bucket and applied with a sponge, brush etc. It must be rinsed off well or it'll leave soap/wax spots. It does very well with minimal effort.
