Bought a TT last summer to boondock in the back country of Colorado where wouldn't dare take the MH. When I dewinterized I had a leak in the cold water side of the outside kitchen faucet.Thought maybe is was a loose fitting. Found out that the yahoo who attached the supply line had cross threaded it. Went to the hardware store and bought a 1/2" cap and capped the supple line so we could go camping.To get it fixed under warranty I would have to tow the trailer 114 miles to dealer and leave it so they could evaluate it and contact Fleetwood. Then I would have to drive down to pick it up. That is a total of 456 miles. At 8.5 mpg and $3.75 a gallon for gas, it adds up to over $200! GrrrrrrrrrFound the faucet on rveparts.com for $39. Took fifteen minutes to install and pressure test. Had to vent because it just burns my britches.

well that's what happens when you don't buy locally. be it by need or cost. were you not aware when you bought it that you would have to go back to the selling dealer or nearest dealer of that RV to get warranty work?bumpy

Hey Thunder if you have a local mobile tech around your are some will do warranty work without leaving your area. When my MH was under warranty I had plenty of warranty work done by mobile techs and independent shops across the usa since fulltiming in 2006. You may want to check around for future repairs if needed .

The good RV dealers stake claim to so much territory they have leverage with the mfg to keep to many dealers carrying the same brands that many miles are often necessary. We had the same problem with our SunnyBrook. About 200+ miles from Roanoke to Camptown RV in NC. Just glad we didnt have any problems with our rig that I couldnt/didnt want to fix myself.I think I would have asked the mfg if they would honor warranty work with a local dealer...never hurts to ask.

Rant - $200 to fix faucet under warranty... NOT!

The nearest Jayco dealer to us is in St. Augustine, FL, which is about a 115 mile drive. The next closet dealer is in North Charleston, SC which is about a 180 mile one-way trip. We've been to the North Charleston, SC dealer 3 times for warranty work because the St. Augustine dealership wouldn't be able to work on our MH in a timely manner.

We bought the motorhome in Williamstown, NJ. On two occassions we needed a new part and the NJ dealer sent us the part under warranty, then we sent them back the bad part. The SC dealer offered the same option one time when a part went bad, but we decided to drive to Charleston anyway.

I think a lot of you have it wrong.

When I buy a new trailer I'm going to buy it in a town I want to vacation in.

That way, when something breaks I have to go on vacation to get it fixed. Who cares if I spend 200 dollars in fuel to get something fixed? I'm on vacation!

Win, win for me.

I find it hard to understand why, after buying an RV,
using it is considered throwing money away.

I understand what you are saying. In some areas of this country there are no local dealers to buy from and you do have to go a distance. And, sometimes there is only 1 dealer in the area. Foolish sometimes to buy from the only local dealer and not be able to select the brand you want. Very unsympathetic crowd here today.

thanks I was aware of the problem and have seen the wet carpets in the ends of some slides… it often goes unnoticed because the wicking action is usually a slow process…

I was just wondering what your fix was as it relates to retracting the slide… thanks again…

I have to say- the title of this thread is really misleading and unfair. It gives the impression that the OP is being charged $200 for a warranty repair.

I mean- give me a break- the complaint is about gas prices and poor mileage.

I have traveled from New England to Elkhart, IN., to get service work done that the dealer could not do, on a timely basis. And just glad to have the repair done correctly. This to have the floor replaced due to water rot. The small to medium stuff, I take care of. Just part of the RV experience.

Most oem warrantys are laughable if you read the fine print. Trust me I do contracts for a living.

Every rain, the carpet under the couch at the rear of the slide became soaked.

Long story short,

this is a much bigger problem than most realize… for some reason RV mfg. think the siding doesn’t need to cover the entire side…

so what was the cure???

I noticed that the ends of the slide are flush with the floor.
This, of course facilitates the slide being able to retract.

Anyway, the water was running down and instead of dripping off,
it was going around under and apparently able to seep in between the floor and wall.

As you know the carpet is installed before the walls are attached.
I found a section of the vetical blind used on patio doors,
attached with Duct Tape the length of the end, including
behind the slide seal.

I had the material hang down a couple of inches, so that the water could not crawl up and in.

Of course before retracting the slide, this plastic strip
must be removed.

No problem for us as we are set up permanent.

We have not had one drop of water in two years since I went to this method.

May not be for everyone,
sure worked for us!
