When I drive down the road, or street, while pulling my 12'-6" 5er, I am looking out for obstacles that may interfere with my route - both height and width. When I'm looking at the height of things, I use judgement on clearance. If it looks close, I will move towards the middle of the street and go around. This maneuvering isn't necessary on major highways.
