While you're making a list of what a city SHOULD be doing, add: snow removal, trash removal, tearing down abandoned houses, fixing pot holes, etc,. In other words, while you're waiting for someone else to fix the problem-exercise a little common sense.
Cities and Counties all have a responsibility to trim trees to 15 ft, I believe. It is not feasible or possible for most people to judge if they are going to miss that tree branch ahead, in traffic and moving at the speed of other traffic. They invite accidents and destruction of people's property, such as RVs Busses and Trucks. you get all kind of excuses such as budget reduction, no people etc. However they are liable where these regulations are in place and are just as important as filling a three ft deep pot hole to prevent wrecks and destruction of of vehicles. Perhaps those that want to blame RVers for being trapped on a roadway with a limb about to tear off their roof or air conditioner with opposing traffic and traffic behind them should give clear instruction on how to avoid them.
The OP was not in moving traffic. He noted an obstacle when he parked, forgot about it and struck it as he was leaving. As a retired truck driver, he should be familiar with a pre-trip inspection. A quick walk-around your vehicle can prevent a lot of problems.
My bad.
