In our county, county regulations state that trees must be trimmed to provide at least 10' vertical clearances over sidewalks and 12' over streets. If your in violation, you may get a notice to trim. OR, they will come out and just go straight up 10', over the sidewalk then straight up 12' over the street and you end up with a pretty ugly looking tree.
And in some places, if the property owner doesn't comply and you end up with roof damage, driving down the street, the property owner is responsible.
