I had a similar experience with a craigs list seller. We were searching for a particular model and year range (late 90s Safari, preferably a Sahara). There were a few for sale on RVT and RVTrader, but nothing local. One dealer offered up the owner's contact info, but I got nothing back from them.
The exact model we were looking for came up locally on craigs list (2 hours away). I called the number and asked to see the coach. I wanted to see it during the day, not night time, but the seller explained that he worked full time and could only show it on the weekends. For 3 months I called every week to see if this weekend would work. While I was doing this, the rig went on eBay for a week and didn't meet reserve and then came back on CL $5k lower. I called the seller and said "If this coach is exactly as you say, you can consider it sold". We never came together on a day for me to look at the motorhome. I concluded that he really didn't want to sell and stopped calling.
I bought the exact same rig from another local CL seller 1 month later. 4 days from calling the seller to writing a check.
