Electric bicycles?

A few years ago I purchased two Wal-mart mountain bikes with full suspension and ordered two weed eater type motors with the wheel conversion kit from Eagle motors. My wife and I use them all the time going all over town(save a ton on gas and wear and tear on the car). I get around 150 miles a gallon. The two great things are that it only added maybe 10lbs to the bike. So, when we have a flat tire I can lift/carry it with out help of two grown men. And, when we are in a area that has a restriction on motorized vehicles (like bike trails etc...) we just shut the motor off and disengage the belt. And it is back to a regular non motorized bikes. I'm 5'10 and weigh around 250 and I can still cruise along at 30-35 MPH on the thing. I purchased two battery powered trailer blinking lights from Lowes to put on the front and rear of the bikes and wear reflective vest (day and night). Safety is paramount you will find out that people will pull out or step out in front of you all the time. They see you coming but because you are on a bike cycle they don't realize that you are coming at them at 30-35 MPH and they just pull/step out. So, you have to be very observant while riding. I also installed a police bike cycle siren on them. It really gets people attention and it has save them and me from hitting them at 30mph. If you decided to purchase a "motor assist" bike just be carful because people forget (and feel very inconvenienced) that a bicyclist have the same rights and responsibilities to be a the road way as vehicles. You will find out that some will cut you off intentionally or get as close as they can when they pass you that you almost (or do get hit) by the side mirror and they think its funny. And, of course there is the international one finger wave. But, as long as you realize and watch out for the hazards(mostly from people)that come along with being on a motorized bike it is a fun and cheap way to get around.
