My husband and I have to share a rather small closet and it gets crowded. Clothes often get pushed behind one another and are hard to locate, especially since we own so many different fleece items that are mostly black.
Part of the crowding problem was solved by purchasing some plastic office supply drawers for most of my clothes. Two of the larger ones on the bottom of the closet serve as a little dresser for my clothes. They stack on top of one another and leave enough room for the hanging items. They also make it easy to pack, for I just remove a drawer from its case and bring it into the house to load it with the items needed for the trip.
Since most of my husband's clothes and all of our jackets, rain gear, vests and sweaters are still hanging up, it was still a pain in the neck to locate items. We have a labeler that prints on plastic strips, so my husband labeled the neck of each hanger with the item that goes on it. Now we just look at the hanger to find the item we need.
When dealing with a small space, organization is a must!
