It might be JUST the reducer you purchased. My Chevy (in my signature below) came with the reducer when I purchased the truck. I've been towing my TT (with the 2 inch shank with an Equal-i-zer) with no issues at all.

If the warming on the reducer says, "don't".... I wouldn't. You've got too much at stake your pulling behind you. Go to your Ram dealership and get the right one you need that's really made for your truck.
