Ready Brute Elite II Tow Bar/Brake

Is anyone familiar with the Ready Brute Elite II tow bar with surge braking? I'm curious as to how well the braking system works.
  • As we are just getting started flat towing our 2014 Honda CRV. We are using the "Ready Brute Elite".
I can say the whole installation process was easy, so far no problems. The Ready Brute people were good to work with and helpful. We have, so far, only taken around the block type shake down/setup trips. These were to mostly dial in the cable adjustment and actually see the brake pedal moving when applying the brakes.
I can say so far we are happy with our choice, and am looking forward to more extended shake down/trips to get more comfortable with the whole process.
So familiar? Well, we are getting there. As soon as things start to open up and the campgrounds start opening in our area, then I will be able to report with. more experience.
I don't want to open the can of worms about supplemental braking systems, and I fully support the use of supplemental braking systems, check the actual laws in your state about the requirement for braking systems. I was surprised when I read up on my state laws and the DMV handbook relating to recreation flat towing.
  • The Ready Brute Elite brakes work great. I was driving out of a pull-thru site when the little anchor shackle holding the brake cable flipped over towards the coach. Completely stopped the Winnebago Vista 27N (29 feet.) I gave it a little more gas, still wouldn't move. Got out and took a look. Granted I was moving very slowly but it was amazing that the little CR-V could hold back the motorhome.

I have been towing that '13 CR-V with the Ready Brute Elite for seven years behind three different motorhomes. I've made many trips over the Cascades, Siskiyous, Sierra, and Rockies. Never have had a problem with the surge brakes in the mountains, or on the flat for that matter.
  • We've been using our ReadyBrute Elite since 2008 and the braking works well for us. We pretty much can't tell the toad is there when stopping except for the dash indicator light coming on.
