However not all by far of the RV'ers can afford to pay 3-5 times as much for something like you and I can to do the same task as something a small fraction of the cost will do too. Given a choice back 30 years ago of a competitive priced MSW or a PSW inverter, mine would have been the PSW too.
My problem is that of all the inverters I have purchased over all those years, only one has failed and it was because water was spilled on it while in use and all the others just keep on working fine. You may notice that I didn't say that the only inverter to buy or have is a MSW? It's simply a buyer's choice!

The fact that PSW inverters haven't come down to reasonable prices/levels is why MSW inverters are still the most popular by far as either will do the job but one empties your wallet real fast. More than one way to skin a cat! - wa8yxmExplorer IIIMy opinion on why PSW's are so expensive borders on politics but can you advise of some lower cost units.. That are good.. I'm having a bit of problem with my Prosine 2.0.. I can get around it, but it is mis-behving.
(It works fine so long as it is in inverter mode)

My point was to show those who are NOT tech savvy a simple real world reason why they should pay extra for a PSW !
Having a background in EE and also doing a lot of research (some pretty deep), I am surprised that the cost of GOOD PSWs is still as high as it is. Many designs are more than 10-15 years old. Nothing wrong with that (assuming that they work well), but there are better, less expensive electronic parts available these days that can do the same job. - theoldwizard1Explorer II

However, it's only for a particular microwave and the inverters that were used and there are big differences in various electronic devices. I too have lots of high end electrical test equipment and being a retired adult life long engineer certainly do know how to use them.
No really big deal in reality between a MSW and a PSW inverter to me or us as it only means running some of the MSW powered microwaves a little longer time period to achieve the same results. Both type inverters (and we do have both) will heat, reheat, cook, or defrost foods placed in them for the time required to do so. We have and had both types on our many various RV's and boats and certainly do not see that big of a difference in cook time required or the results the OP had. Have and have had many inverters (100 watt to 2500 watt) since the early 1980's with our first inverter being an Heart interface 1800 watt extremely heavy combo inverter/charger. I'd move it from our large sailboat or the cabin cruiser to either our class A MH or the Caribou 11-1/2' TC or the 30' TT we had back then. Only a few 3/8 dia stainless wingnuts on brass threaded studs to deal with. Carrying the heavy thing was the worse part but at the cost back then, it was less painful than buying 3 or more of them and the dollar's value bought you so much more back then. MSW's are real cheap now!
Still have inverters in one of our boats and in all of our RV's and they range from a 750 watt backup to 1500, 20000, and 2500 watt and have 3 to 7 group 31 deep cycle 12V batteries and they sure work great. Recharged quick by the vehicle's or boat's engine's alternators or if a must, with the generator when appropriate. Inverters are silent running but generators are not and/or not even allowed to be run in many campgrounds or areas or have very restrictive hours they can be run. Inverters can operate any time anywhere to supply 110 AC as wanted or needed and are only limited by watt output of the inverter and the amp hours of battery reserve you have available! We also have a built in PP generator in one RV and have a Honda EU 2000 generator carried on a welded steel bracket attached on the back of a couple of our RV's.
Perhaps there is a big difference with the brand or quality of the circuitry used in a particular electronic device.
Yes, PSW inverters are nicer and a better first choice when buying new but the cost is still a big factor for many buyers is still way too high especially when you have 6 inverters to consider like we do and that either type will do the job at hand just fine. Never have yet found anything the MSW inverter wouldn't run in the over 30 years we have been using them. Including all TV's, microwaves, radios (our Bose systems included and with no hum or buzzing or loss of sound quality), Heater blankets or heated mattress pads, or anything we've run from the MSW inverters.
