Receiver

If you take the receiver off and have it sandblasted, you will get the very best results. It may be no more trouble than working around things to sand and paint it.

No, that stuff is for cleaning clothes and stains, rocks etc. Rust-Kutter is a rust converter that converts rust to a harmless coating on the metal. Do not confuse it with the many rust removing cleaners out there. Click on the link I provided above to see and/or purchase the Rust-Kutter product or google Rust-Kutter and see if there are other places to get it.

That is, as you said "A little" rusted. surface rust.. NAPA and others sell a "Rust Stopper.. I'd paint it with Rustg Stopper. then re-paint it black a period of time later.

Wire brush to remove as much rust as possible.. INSIDE the receiver you can use either a special very expensive custom fit wire brush or those dual headed brushes designed for cleaning a grill, you may need to "Spread the legs" a bit on the grill brush.

WD40 NO but I would use Fluid Film after wire brushing.
