The fuel usage penalty of an LT tire is more directly related to tire weight (heavier than P of same size) than friction.
I'm very happy with the Michelin LTX M/S2. 30k miles comfortable, durable, quiet, miles with good grip dry/wet/snow. Expect at least 75k miles from them.
