Reese revolution wedge bolt nut needs welded

Would it be possible to cut an access hole on the top of the box and weld the nut in place, then weld a cover plate over the access hole ? My dealer has had a new pin box ordered for 5 weeks and we are being told it will be another 2 weeks before it's built. So we don't know when it will get here. Thanks for any ideas
