Refer ...............

................ keeps running 24/7!

Even at "warmest" setting takes food down to 28 degrees and the freezer to about - 20 degrees. Last time I had trouble it quit on first day out of planned 40 some day trip and we had to return home. Hey, better this way as I just turn it off for a while and then back on.

Extended warranty payment due in a couple of weeks and hate to shell out $400+ but this 5er is now 8 years old and who knows what is next. We did get a new A/C this last spring; one heckuva fight with Good Sam extended warranty but did get it.

Ah, the joys of RVing.
  • remove the thermistor. place a small cup of water on the shelf on the far right corner and see if it is frozen tomorrow morning. this might tell you the cooling system is not working correctly. I have seen this done but it was disconnected at the outside back of the fridge for the test.

  • Well, still at 29 in refer and -10 in freezer no matter what --- hey, can live with it but one always wonder. And switch the two thermometers and they read the same way. But no freezing on the fins. And food not freezing. Very strange.

Question. Can one just replace the tip of the thermister by splicing the wire and changing it or does it have to be run new all the way down?

    Thanks, guys.

  • Did the thermistor; thanks all.

Maybe I just did not notice it before (kinda doubt it though) but it sure whines pretty loudly full time.

Will report in in a couple of days as to thermistor getting temps ok.

    Thanks again.
  • Thermistor......sensing device for fridge thermostat

Tip (bulb end) should just protrude top of clip and for Dometic clip goes on far right fin. (Norcold has different fin locations)

When thermistor fails or if not attached to fin..fridge goes into continuous cooling mode.

Don't you wish all problems were so easy to correct :B
  • Ours started doing that - frig way to cold and icing up the fins. Freezer was fine. We replaced the thermistor and it's fine now.
  • I put it on the outside of the fin. Thanks, Larry - Merry Christmas.

  • Install it on the far right fin about in the middle. No reason to wait do it tonight.

  • I think you got it right.

I think you nailed it, sch911

When we started out I noticed a white plastic clip and a wire laying in the tray and I just let it lay there. Kinda knew that was not right but let it lay.

I now see that this should go up into the fins somehow and I kinda clipped it up there now; not sure I did it right but it is up there.

Will see what happens and will call Dometic tomorrow. Have called them in the past and they are extremely helpful.

Do you know how it is supposed to go on? The wire kinda fit in the small groove on the one side so I put it in there and then just slipped the whole clip on.

    Love this Forum!

    Thanks.

  • What kind of refrigerator?

Dometic? If so check to see if the fin temp sensor has fallen off.
