Refrig on Propane

We are going to leave our TT for 5 days because we need to return home due to a medical issue. Campground will store it for us with no electric hookup. Our refrigerator is fully stocked. Both propane tanks are full. Definitely enough to run the fridge 24/7 for five days??? I know it is but DW needs to hear it from someone else. :R

Thank you! Your prayers are much appreciated. :) This isn't a "health emergency" as much as it is a "Medical Issue" so we will deal with it and get on with it as they say.

To be sure I understand correctly: the refrig needs the 12 volt system to run off propane? And five full days on one battery is too long and the battery will go dead and the refrigerator will stop working? If I'm understanding this correctly I learned something new today. I've been camping for forty years but have only boondocked one night at a time and moved on the next day. I've never boondocked two or three days successively. Thank you! You saved me a refrigerator full of food spoiling and the mess it would have created.

The refrigerator controller needs battery power, and you also have a gas detector, possibly CO detector and other items in the trailer that will be drawing battery power, even when you don't think you have anything turned on. My last TT used somewhere around 30 amp hours of power a day just sitting there when I had the battery switch turned on and the fridge running on propane. That will kill a single battery in just a couple days.
  • I am not sure how long the batteries would run the circuit boards and igniter on your fridge, but I would think if you have 2 good deep cycle batteries they would run the electronics in the fridge for a week. I don't know that as I have not tried it, maybe some one who has will respond. :h :@

you have enough propane but the fridge will also need 12-volt power. any chance you can leave ith TT plugged in? if not and you have more than one 12-volt battery, they're in good shaoe AND fully charged you might make 5-days. you'd be better off if there's a way to plug the trailer in or at least put a battery charger on the batteries.

    good luck.
  • I would leave it plugged in. The refer requires 12 volts to power the circuit board.
If your batteries run down even a little, the refer won't work.

    I had that experience.

Propane should be fine but how many batteries do you have and what size?
  • I recently had to run our refer on propane and it didn't work. Haven't found out why as yet. So be sure yours is working.
