Refrigerator on the Road

If LP wasn't an option, I would add thermal mass if possible, preferably a day or two before starting out. Freezer packs or water bottles are good options. For four hours, a couple frozen pint bottles would keep the freezer at an operating temperature, and if one tosses one in the fridge, the refrigerator would be kept cool as well.

Many "Scared" by stories of Fridge fires, have opted instead for a residential (120vac) only fridge,, They should have gone with a high efficiency compressor job (120/12v) like my Freezer.

To the OP. The answer to your question depends on your batteries. With a pair, or better yet two pair, OF GC2, odds are you will be OK provided you plug in promptly at the end of the trip... I doubt the charging system will be able to keep up however. Recommendation:

Get one of those luggable "Jump Start" battery packs, i'd recommend at least 750 Peak amps, if not 1000.. That way if the batteries run down too far you may still be able to hook up and operate jacks and slides till the converter finishes it's job. I had to bring in slides on a class A with just the converter the other day.. Took 3 men.

X 2 We've had our Suites for just about two years now and traveling with the fridge "on" is no problem, it's not that big of a draw on the batteries. If you don't open the fridge it stays colder longer. We have tried leaving the fridge off too and it stays pretty darn cold for 3 to 4 hours the couple of times we've tried it.

The refer probably will not run that much while on the road.

IMHO I would not worry about 4 hours. An RV fridge is not a Yeti, but it is no worse than a decent cooler. If you want to be sure stuff stays cold, just get a small chunk of dry ice at the super market or toss in a couple of freezer packs.

Normally for 5-6 hours without power I'd leave it off, BUT you need to find out if the TV is charging the batteries. I'd check the battery voltage unplugged from the truck and with it hooked up and the truck running. Second voltage should be higher than the first... closer to 14.

It is designed to do that. Turn it on and make sure your inverter is turned on. No problem at all. Having been doing it on our 5th wheel and now our motorhome for a couple of years and works great. The refer will draw very little power if it is already cold.

If your fridge is full of food and drinks, I would not worry too much. Just turn it off and keep its doors shut.
