Remco disconnect

We have a 2011 Ranger 2wd that is not flat towable, I believe this is my only option. Anyone using one of these? How do you like it and how easy is it to use?
  • Thanks for the answers. I still have the brake buddy from when we toad the CR-V behind the Moho, so brakes aren't an issue. We bought the Ranger with the plan to do a disconnect and be towed behind a Moho with the Harley in the bed
  • I've been using the Remco driveshaft disconnect for longer than I can remember. First had it on an '84 Ranger, then moved it to several Aerostars. Love it! The release knob is just in front and under the driver's seat - hardly noticeable. When I'm connected and ready to tow, I move the shift lever to neutral to release any pressure on the driveshaft and then put it in park where it stays while being towed. When I'm ready to disconnect, I try to find a level spot. Disconnect the towbar after setting the emergency brake to make sure it won't roll. Then I lean on the driver's seat and while pushing on the engagement knob, I rock the Aerostar back and forth to find the engagement point where the knob slides easily to the floor locking the driveshaft into one piece again. Generally less than 6 inches one way or the other is all that's needed. Even when disconnecting on a downward slope, I can engage the lock ring easily before the van moves very close to the MH. To be extra cautious, you could move the MH out of the way before attempting to engage.

I use the ReadyBrake inertia brake on the van to ensure it brake proportionally. Simple and effective.

If you have any specific questions about this setup, let me know.

Are you going to tow the Ranger behind the slide-in?
  • My dad had the driveshaft disconnect installed on a pickup he used to have. Towed it for several years till he wrecked it. He never really complained about it, I guess it worked. If it didn't, I definitely would have heard about it...
