Rent my RV out as a business. Insurance needed?

Hello. I just bought a motorhome. My 41' fifth wheel toy hauler is up for sale. However, it occurred to me that I rent it out instead of selling it. I have done this in the past with a travel trailer but through a agency/broker. They took care of all of the insurance, finding customers, etc.

My question is: For those of you that rent your RV out what sort of insurance do you have? What are there other legal considerations?

Please no replies regarding renting an RV being a bad idea (i.e. did you watch Breaking Bad or Robin Williams in RV) :). Also, this is an extra RV that I have sitting around right now. I rented RVs out before and if the renter is well vetted then I found that I had no problems. My interest is in the legal/insurance aspect of doing this as a small business.

I also acknowledge that any advice given is not legally binding. Just looking for your opinions. Thanks!

I think you are going to have to create an LLC to shield your personal assets from any potential issues. You'll probably have to "sell" the trailer to the business also so that it's no longer your personal property. Next talk to an insurance agent that specializes in insurance for small business.

There's a place near where I live that only has a handful of trailers, pop-ups, and RVs for rent but he seems to do a thriving business. I wish you well on this.

    Thanks!
