We tore out the carpet in the LR and BR and replaced with 16" square vinyl tiles. We glued them down. My son laid the first few and showed us how to do it. It was hard on the knees but easy to lay down the tiles. We bought them at Home Depot. We first tried the interlocking vinyl planks (Allure) but we have a curved wall in the bedroom and couldn't get the cut right to go around the curve. The vinyl tiles were easy to cut with a jigsaw or heavy duty box cutter we also got at Home Depot. It's so easy to clean. If everyone saw all the dirt that goes through the carpet and accumulates under it they would all tear it up. We got an estimate from someone to lay continuous vinyl and it was over $3,000. The tiles were about $300 plus glue and a few other tools.
