Replace Screen Door Hinge?

The lower screen door hinge on our Cougar bumper pull has broken right at the 90 degree bend.

One half screws to the screen door with three self tapping aluminum screws, and the other half is held in place by a hinge pin that runs the entire length of the door frame.

The door hinges and the screen door hinges are all held in place by the continuous hinge pin.

How do you remove or pull that pin?

If I could get the pin pulled up 7", I could take both halves to a welder or replace the hinge.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

  • Thanks for the two responses.

It looks like the door will have to come off to pull the hinge pin. I'm thinking that the screws are hidden under a plastic moulding strip that runs around the door. We're traveling now so it may be more than I can do on the road.

And at home, back in Washington, I have a TIG welder, and I agree that TIG welding is the best fix. We're in San Diego currently. If I could get the second half of the broken hinge off, I could find a welder here to TIG it back together.

    Again,thanks.
  • Stop by a welding shop that welds aluminum They should be able to do it on the trailer without removing the door. TIG welding will give you the nicest looking result but MIG will be lots cheaper and still look good.
  • If it is like my door/screen door unit you will have to remove the door, screen door and then remove the hinge. Then, you can figure out how to move the pin enough to remove the lower hinge. This all sounds like a lot of work, but with two persons and an electric screw driver it is relatively easy.
