Again, I believe the OP is using POP email, where the email are originated and stored on their PC and also on the server if so configured. Any straight server based email will not have this issue. I used Outlook Express for years with POP email and had to make those port changes a few years ago. I am now on Mozzila's Thunderbird like noted above. It is set up as IMAP not POP and coordinates between devices. That is if I view an email on my smart phone or tablet, then my laptop and desk top know that and indicate that I have already viewed the email, greying it out.
