Restrictions on RVs in Smithtown, NY

The Long Island Towns are completely out of control between the taxes and the rules it's no wonder everyone is moving off Long Island...

Until someone starts living in an old beat up camper outside your house. Then you will complain "There outta be a law"

Or until fire and rescue equipment attempts to get to your home.

My brother lived in Floral Park for a while. He couldn't keep a commercial vehicle (a.k.a. pick-up) in his driveway or any vehicle on the street overnight.

It's called snob zoning for a reason.

I can see there thoughs, IF I lived there I would not want campers on the street , just looks trashy . I don,t plame them for wanting a nice area.

It's not just the Island, NY in general, town I lived in upstate has gone from nearly 60,000, to somewhere around 35,000.

Sounds reasonable to me...If you dont have a place to park your RV, you probably shouldnt own one.

Now, if you are talking about a visitor parking their RV to do some shopping or visiting someone, thats another story. Of course, parking overnight would be considered camping.

As far as keeping an rv on your property I'm fine with that I got my parked beside my garage. But I don't like the idea of long term parking on the street. Like some else stated it could make ever harder for fire equipment to get down some streets.

Are cars allowed to long term park on these streets? If so, how will an RV hinder fire equipment more than cars? RV is a little wider but write ordinance to prohibit any long term street parking on roads of a specific width.

Sorry if you think it looks trashy...laws should not be based on what someone thinks something looks like. Anything, car or RV, parked on the street should be registered and in running/drive-able condition.

I could see prohibiting Camping/living in a an RV parked on street in front of someone's house.

But, just my opinion and reason I don't live in area with a bunch of HOA rules.

Rather bigoted statement, will make the hundreds of thousands folks that own an RV & have to park them at a storage lot for what ever reason, very happy. :S
