Retired, want roomy "portable apartment" for two only

Greetings RVers from a forum newbie "maybe wannabe" looking at retirement options. I seem to have discovered an important gap in the RV market so blatant it almost makes me sense a business opportunity.

Here's what I want: A big, roomy travel trailer or 5th wheel, suitable for a single person or one couple, with an open floorplan, bumpouts and just one bed. To me all those brochures and listings that boast "sleeps 6, 10, 12" just scream, "Go away, you're not our market."

I want to live in the thing for several months at a time and not feel like I'm squeezed into a either a bowling alley or a "silverware drawer" that's all divied up into odd corners and compartments.

I want just one medium bedroom (queen but not necessarily "walk-around"), a full-blown bathroom (don't want to compromise with that), and that's it - no other full or partial partitions. I do want a small oven to cook a frozen pizza, couple burners for coffee, noodles etc., a small sink and a small freezer/fridge - but that's it, I'm not out to feed the multitudes.

In short, I want the thing to feel like a regular living room. This would be traveling apartment for one or two at most, period - not a bunkhouse for whole gang.

I suspect I'm not alone in this pursuit, and also suspect such products exist, but man, the vendors sure do a good job of hiding them from google, etc.

An aside: Not seeing anything on the market that comes close has me thinking of contracting for a gutted rehab trailer that meets these criteria. That would also be an opportunity to give it an MCM look. Not necessarily authentic MCM though - I'm not a collector - I just like the look. (I have a pink fridge and 'sputnik' lamp in my 1950s house to prove it :-) .)
  • I'd look at some of the larger Lance Travel Trailers. They would suit you fine and they're quality construction. There is a video on their website about construction, etc.

Frank, do you sell Lance trailers, cause most of your posts are telling people to buy a Lance TT.

Hey you know what...why don't get on your computer and start looking at different makers websites & dealers websites & checkout different floor plans. Then walk out your front door and go visit the different dealers that have what you might like and see if any interest you. Other people have no clue what really floats your boat. Do a little homework yourself.

When we wanted a newer RV we didn't get on here and ask others to find us an RV..we had an idea of what we wanted &did our own evaluating of the 65 gazillion RV's out there till we found the one right for us....You can do the same if you put a little effort into it. JMO
  • Most RVs only have one bed even though they state they will sleep more than 2. The couch will open up into a bed, or the kitchen table will come down AMD make a bed. But the RV only has one bed.
  • What you are talking about is a traditional layout in a 5th wheel. The extra sleeping space comes from a sofa bed, using the both dinette as a sleeping area, etc, Our sofa in our 5th wheel has storage underneath, not a hide-a-bed and we have a stand alone dining table. We say "6 for drinks. 4 for dinner, and 2 for sleep." Just look for a traditional floor plan. There we tons of them out there.
  • We like the way our motorhome is set up. We often refer to it as "six to visit, four to eat, and two to sleep". Lots of room for day-time visitors, but everyone has to leave at bedtime! No place for other overnighters.
