Roadmaster bracket question

Your perspective please. For my 2015 Subaru Forester, (6 sped manual transmission), Roadmaster offers two similar brackets, the EZ4 or the EZ5.

What are the positives & negatives of either/or?

PS. RV is a 2008 Winnebago Destination. 39' - diesel pusher.

Tnx.

  • As stated above the EZ-5 does not have a cross bar. I contacted Roadmaster regarding my 2014 Honda baseplate about what I "lost" by going to the EZ-5. The answer is you cannot attach accessories with the EZ-5. Accessories like a rock sheild, quick connect safety cables (I'm now sure what else.)

I've always HATED the cross bar and the extra hardware associated with the crossbar/adapter plate including the short breakaway cable. It required me to roll around on the ground to hook all that stuff up. With my new -5 base plate I can hook up without getting on my belly. In addition to that there use to be what I guessed was 40# of hardware on the front of the CRV when I unhooked. Finding a secure place to store all that crappe was always a small problem. With the new -5 there are only two arms to be removed which can easily be stored within the CRV.

I've towed my 99 CRV for 9 years without a rock sheild. There is no damage that I can see from not having a rock guard.

One cavaet: I have not yet towed with the -5 base plate (I recently got the car.) So use or throw out this information as you are inclined.

I also suggest you look at the install instructions for both models, even if you're hiring somebody to do the job. One might (and I haven't looked) require more or different fascia/trim cutting. Also, (and I doubt this but look) they could install at different heights. That could make it easier to have a level tow bar with one vs. the other.
  • EZ 5 has no cross bar.
Other then that I would say by looking at website they are equal. EZ 5 is for tow bars like the Falcon, MH mounted..
