I have an Olympus waterproof camera that I use as my everyday camera. I specifically wanted a waterproof camera as my camping camera (I full time) so I could take it with me in the National Parks no matter the weather. I don't worry if it's raining, snowing, or I'm in a boat, canoe, kayak.
Waterproof to about 15-20 feet (snorkeling in the Keys) and supposed to be able to take a 6 ft drop. I don't worry about rain or if I drop it as I take it out of my pocket. Has a nice zoom too.
I just looked and their new one (TG-860) is good to 50 ft under water, shockproof, and has a 105mm zoom. List is $280.
All I can say is that I really like mine.
