Digital T-stat Upgrade

I've replaced the thermostats in the last 3 campers we've had, but have not seen a set up like this. the bottom T-stat controls the heat and the top one controls the a/c, except that the a/c needs to be selected on the bottom one. Can I go with a digital residential heat and a.c combo stat from the home center?

  • Fifth wheel? Ceiling is too tall to reach the fan switch. The heat a/c thermostat can easily be replaced with digital.
  • Most home thermostats require 24V AC to operate. If you are going to use a home thermostat, be sure it has its own battery.

A second problem is some Dometic thermostats that run both AC & the furnace connect to a control box rather than directly to the furnace & Air Conditioner. Mine is in the air conditioner shroud. The wiring for mine has three wires at the thermostat - Ground, +12v, and control. If you have that type, I doubt any home thermostat, battery powered or not would work.

There is a replacement for the Dometic thermostat called the Micro Air Easy Touch . It has both Bluetooth & WiFi controls as well as the faceplate. I like mine, but their website shows a replacement for your thermostat "is coming soon".

Yep. Saw the Fantastic fan in the living room and assumed that once-upon-a-time it had a remote that was no longer with it. I didn't know they even made a wall-mounted t-stat for those fans. 20+ years on this forum and learning new stuff!

Yes, if you have the Dometic 3 wire to wall tstat system, you CANNOT use any other type wall tstat. BTW, 24 volt tstats will work on 12 volt supply in RV's. Doug
