Quiet time is 11pm to 6am. It's a beautiful October night and the state park CG is nearly full. Everyone is in a great mood, people and kids having fun, walking around, socializing, enjoying one of the last weekends in Wi before the parks close everything up for the winter. We are sitting around the fire with a before dinner cocktail with the stereo blasting (not really, set at 2 or 3 on the volume), Yanni or Tangerine Dream ( for those of you that might not know, this is instrumental music NOT known for being loud) and low and behold.....the host shows up and says that he has had complaints about the volume and music. It's only 6pm on a Saturday night. I can hear kids yelling over my music down the lane!
My first response was "wow, I'm in my 50s and we are getting yelled at for our loud outrageous music. Just like I did in my teens". My second response was....why didn't the host tell the complainer to come back at 11 pm if the music is still playing.
I could understand if I was blaring Death Metal with the volume turned up to 11, but this was quiet instrumental. At what point do I have to alter my style to accommodate a complainer?
I'm "fortunately" not familiar with the crowded camping environments' that exist in a large section of the country. I gather that often times, there are rules posted as to use & in this case "quiet time" hours posted. Now, assuming that's the case & you weren't within those hours & you stated you weren't. It sounds to me you were courteous & considerate by keeping the volume level down, BUT YET!!!
"It becomes your responsibility to see that your camp neighbors enjoy THEIR stay" in a public open air environment".
And while sitting around the camp fire enjoying a cocktail & listening to the tunes in the open air, please don't lite that Cuban Royal. It will cause cancer amongst the chipmunks.
Yanni and Tangerine Dream ---- OUTSTANDING !!!
Here's a tip.
I usually drown out my outdoor tunes by starting my yellow generator.:B
Yes, in your situation, headphones may be an alternative, but how are you going to hear the generator when it quits ? :h
