Quiet time is 11pm to 6am. It's a beautiful October night and the state park CG is nearly full. Everyone is in a great mood, people and kids having fun, walking around, socializing, enjoying one of the last weekends in Wi before the parks close everything up for the winter. We are sitting around the fire with a before dinner cocktail with the stereo blasting (not really, set at 2 or 3 on the volume), Yanni or Tangerine Dream ( for those of you that might not know, this is instrumental music NOT known for being loud) and low and behold.....the host shows up and says that he has had complaints about the volume and music. It's only 6pm on a Saturday night. I can hear kids yelling over my music down the lane! My first response was "wow, I'm in my 50s and we are getting yelled at for our loud outrageous music. Just like I did in my teens". My second response was....why didn't the host tell the complainer to come back at 11 pm if the music is still playing.I could understand if I was blaring Death Metal with the volume turned up to 11, but this was quiet instrumental. At what point do I have to alter my style to accommodate a complainer?

Ya, music and dogs always seem to be an area of contention in the RV campground scene.Always 2 sides of the story.....:M and ....:)

Not sure how loud a 2 or 3 is, but if you can hear your music two campsites away, I would suggest it's too loud.Now me, I'd complain about having to listen to Yanni at any volume, but crank up some AC/DC and now you're talking....(and no complaints)

WOW, 11 o'clock, all the CG's I've been to quiet time is usually 10.

Im sure the problem was you were playing Yanni. I would have complained too :)

I'm a music playing outside guy myself, but i always, always, keep it low. Mostly stay at SPs with room around us, and still check with the neighbors (if I can hear it at their site, I turn it down)!What's music to your ears, is loud noise to others! Bose and Beats have some really nice head phones if you want to crank it up........and you won't have to hear the yelling kids, old loud diesels, and barking dogs....lol!

Rockin' out (I guess)........how much is too much?

We hosted at a forestry park where we had new college graduates come and stay for 3 days. They rented 2 group sites which allowed 20 people each site, so approx 40 new graduates. They would not abide by the quiet time rules no matter how many times we went down there. It would be quiet for 5 minutes and then they would gradually get loud again (drunk). No one was fighting, they were just talking and laughing around the fire. We worked for a concessionaire and noise was not an issue that you were allowed to call the rangers for. We were so glad when they left as we were up all night for 2 nights trying to keep them quiet! Calls to the rangers would be for things like drug use/selling that could be proven - underage drinking - drunken brawls -couples physically fighting, that type of thing. So - if quiet doesn't happen, it doesn't mean someone wasn't trying to enforce the rules.

Ditto Lake Don Pedro, CA.

To me, if your neighbors can more than barely hear your music, it's too loud. I don't care what kind of music it is, it's just plain rude and selfish. Earphones are a great idea. I shouldn't have to wear earplugs at my campsite to be comfortable and happy there.

I agree completely. A campsite isn't your patio at home. Many campers are there to hear nature instead of someone's music.

Headphones are a great suggestion as is playing the music inside your camper (with it low enough to not be heard outside the camper). iPods/mp3 players with ear phones are helpful too-just don't sing along out loud where others can hear you!

Call the police or sheriff. Maybe they could make the rangers do their job. But with all the c--- that goes on during spring break with alcohol to underage kids the area is more interested in the money they make...

Don't go to Lake Havasu State Park, AZ during spring break. Many college kids have no respect for others. We made the mistake of going there during spring break 2 years ago. One could hear very loud music and loud people talking clear across the campground. The rangers did nothing, even after several complaints, even as the noise continued until 2AM.

1st thing I do when I return to the RV is ask my dog if he barked while I was gone. He always shakes his head "no" so I know he doesn't bark. :@

Who the heck is Yanni?

We primarily boondock on BLM/Forest Service "dispersed camping" ($0) and thus avoid the problem of other folks' noise. The worst device ever for other folks' camping are the outside entertainment packages.
