Roof Attic Mushroom Cap

Finally happened.... While scrubbing the roof of the 5er I hit one of the attic mushroom vent caps with the brush & broke a piece off. Too much baking in the sun as the plastic was very brittle.
It's called Roof Attic Mushroom Cap, part # 102776
It appears you have to buy the whole cap & base, but I only want to replace the cap & not remove the base if it is not damaged.
My question is how does the cap come off? Does it screw off, snap off, pull out or what? I don't want to break anything else as I want to put the new cap on the existing base.

  • Nope, did all my searching online. That's where I've had the best results for most things.

I don't need them anymore, but I may give them a call just to see though.
  • Did you try KC trailer on Merriam Lane in KCK? I'm real sure that is where I bought my replacements. I see you are in Platte City, so it relatively close to you.
  • If you know where to buy just the cap, please post a link. I searched high and low and couldn't find anyone that would sell just the cap.
  • Your cap may be like the ones on our previous MH. The cap had 3 arms that came down and were part of the base. Cut off 3 arms close to base, throw old cap away. Buy new cap only, metal spring arms underneath cap. They push down inside the vent pipe and hold the cap securely in place. No need to replace complete cap and base assembly unless you want to.

EDIT: Missed the part where you said they screw off. Anyway you can buy just the cap. I replaced one on previous MH and have a spare still in package for new MH.
  • OK, Thanks all...
They do screw off. I have 2 vents & yesterday I took them off. As I thought, the base of the vent, the vent itself & caulking are all like new because the cap covers it all.
The caps are both cracked and need replaced. I glued them until I can get new ones. To bad you can't just buy the cap because I don't
think you would ever need the base & vent unless adding a new complete vent to your rig.
  • Yeah, I bought the whole kit just to replace the cap. They just screw onto the stud that sticks up from the base. In fact I bought two kits just in case I lose another one. :)
  • The cover on those Mushroom Attic vents should screw off, I had to buy the complete assembly to get a replacement cover after the original unscrewed its self and disappeared. I put a dab of Silicone on the threads of the replacement.
  • Tape the cap good. Tap it with a hammer. It should splinter if it's brittle. I think most of them slide in and have locking tabs. You may be able to buy a new vent with cap and remove the cap since you can then access the locking tabs.
