Our first trailer didn't have the covers, the current one came with them. I'm a believer especially if I forget to cclose the vents. To the OP, did you check them when you put the trailer in storage? Maybe it wasn't closed and the wind took it off. I can't see a thief trying to enter that way but stranger things have happened.
