Actually, unless you wear knee pads it's probably harder on your roof to do it that way. Kneel on the floor and consider how small the area of your knee is that contacts the floor. Now stand and compare your footprint to your kneeprint. Plus your knees tend to be more pointed than the sole of your shoes. Your flat-soled shoes will most likely do a better job of spreading the weight over a larger area.
