Rubber roof maintenance

Any comments, thoughts, product experience on the maintenance of rubber roofs? Mine is in good shape & I'd like to keep it that way.

  • I haven't washed my roof but maybe 3 times in 12 years. It's in great shape. Then again, I'm rarely in rain, or cold, or under trees. Also, 50% is under solar panels.
  • I am not a risk taker. I wash my camper roof ONLY with RV Rubber roof cleaner. I'll never forget the advise the dealer told me when we purchased our first trailer with a rubber roof. He said use only RV Rubber roof cleaner, something specifically made for those roofs, because other cleaners will dry out the rubber, cause deterioration, and you'll loose your roof premature. Well, I listened to him and been doing that ever since. I then follow up with the Rubber Roof Conditioner made for rubber roofs.

I know Spic N Span is a lot cheaper, but the long term risks are too much of a gamble in my book. Use whatever you want. Lots of other folks do on these forums and they say their money saving products work perfectly fine, which they just may. But do you gamble? How long do you plan to keep your RV?
  • Just an occasional wash and good rinse is all it needs…

Mild soap like dawn or spic n span are good choices…

none of the made for rubber roof gimmicks…
