Welcome to the joy of camping next to the Texas Gulf coast. Be happy you're up in Galveston where it isn't as bad as further south. :E
Fluid Film. if you want to do it right, or you can do what I do and use ATF in a dollar store spray bottle. Fluid Film is much cleaner.
Once the damage is done the best you can do is slow it down with Ospho. After that, then paint if you want.
