RV and truck storage in Arizona

We need to store both our pick up and our fifth wheel for 10 weeks beginning January 15th, somewhere in the Tucson area. We visited several storage facilities a few weeks ago and are totally confused. We're concerned about pack rats because of the horror stories we've heard. We're parked for the next few months at a state park where we're volunteering and we're using rope lights under the truck and the RV (we're parked in the desert), but when we store the rig, we won't have electricity. Most of the places we looked at were gravel parking lots, only a few where paved and covered. Of course, they are very expensive. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • We've never had a problem with packrats in Arizona either. As a precaution we empty a box of mothballs in a mesh tiny laundry bag for delicates and hang it in the engine compartment. Also, buy a box of dryer softener cloths and place them in your cabinets, silverware drawer and throughout the bays as a mouse deterrant. I don't know if any of the above is the reason that we haven't been bothered by these critters but we don't have a problem. Our storage facility is surrounded by desert. Good luck!
  • Put peppermint oil on cotton balls through your unit to keep packrats away. Good smell but packrats do not like. Mice also.
  • Never ever had a problem with pack rats.

We used to use an enclosed storage facility in Casa Grande called Copper Mountain. Never had a problem. Left the rig there most of one winter. Tucson should have equivalent places.
