This sounded really strange to us at first. Matter of fact we thought it was a far fetched tail. But when we bought our current trailer the dealer had all the history on it. Turns out previous owners were one of their best customers. They never towed (now ours) trailer and they bought a new trailer every other year. They had the dealer tow it to where ever they wanted (campground, etc) usually within 100 miles from house. Then they would call dealer to tow it back to their house when thru camping. I understand years prior with their first trailer, that they were involved in a bad accident and never wanted to tow anything again. Wife asked the dealer why didn't they get a motor home? Dealer said they did at one time, but after awhile the motorhome was just another set of cylinders to take care of, and they were afraid to drive it also.
Wife and I think the dealer made a ton of them. But when you think about depreciation and upkeep on pick up, might not be that bad of idea.
