RV drinking Water Hose

Some of the white hoses are 1/2" and some are 5/8". Any reason to choose one over the other? Actually, I had never even noticed the difference till I was shopping for one earlier.

  • Great replies guys, thanks. Bottom line, the bigger hose isn't going to make the shower pressure greater since the pipes are 1/2" anyway, plus the regulator is there.
  • And wouldn't the 1/2" provide more pressure? If that's an issue, which probably isn't considering the recommendation to use a pressure regulator.

X2... All 1/2" plumbing inside my RV

  • Also most of the time the 1/2 inch hose is a bit cheaper. That makes the decision for many folks.

As a full timer, we use 5/8 hoses with heavy duty reinforced fittings. The constant use and with 50+ tear down / setups per year the cheap hoses don’t last. Ive has several fail at this he joint between the screw fitting and the unmoving part attached to the hose.
  • I am connected to city water most of the time. I prefer the 1/2 hose. I find it easier to coil.
  • Yes, a half inch will take a tad longer to fill your tank vs 5/8, especially if it is a large tank but..
If hooked to city water it will make no difference at all. Basically it comes down to 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

  • Thanks, Donn. Like I said, I had never noticed the difference in sizes. Now that I'm looking, the 1/2" ones seem to be easier to find. Makes me wonder why anyone would want less flow. Oh well, it's a slow Saturday. LOL Certainly nothing compared to Brexit, the economy, or other news worthy topics.:)
