Alas, I live here and it is basically shut down, shuttered up and thousands of employees moved away. It is just a shell with no future projects.
NASA is alive and well, and recently landed the Curiosity rover on Mars, which is as big as a truck and gathering tremendous geological and hydrological information.
Didn't you see the fabulous documentary on the spectacular landing system that worked perfectly? Designed and built by government and university scientists and engineers.
